Acne Prone Skin Care

If you have acne prone skin, then there are certain skin care regimes that you should follow in order to the prevent acne outbreaks from happening.

How do I know if I have Acne Prone Skin?

Acne prone skin is characterized by pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, redness and inflammation.  The actual cause of acne prone skin is your genetics and it is triggered by hormones.  You cannot actually cure acne prone skin.  However, there are various forms of treatment available that can help you to manage it.

If you have acne prone skin you are probably also susceptible to residual color traces, known as hyperpigmentation.  You can treat this by daily use of an exfoliating AHA and BHA based for product,  as well as anti-irritants, and antibacterials.  These help to alleviate excess skin cell buildup, and will keep your pores clean and bacteria-free.

The Best Treatment for Acne Prone Skin

If you have acne prone skin you may need to use a different form of treatment than that used to treat acne conditions on regular skin.  The first step is to cleanse your skin.   Never harshly rub your face with a towel, this will just irritate your acne further.  Instead, just pat dry and then let your skin air-dry naturally.

During the skin cleansing process, you should use a mild or medicated cleanser with either salicyclic or benzoyl peroxide.  Cleansing should take place in the morning, as well as before you go to sleep, and remember to never wash or scrub excessively hard.  If you also have oily skin, be sure to avoid heavy cream-based cleansers as they will add even more oil and aggravate your acne.

The next step is to moisturize.  Again, be careful not to add extra oil to your skin, so make sure you read the ingredients in a product before you buy it.  Typically, you want to use light oil-free moisturizers, and apply them after the cleansing step.

If you are using an over-the-counter or prescription acne treatment product, follow the directions provided with it.

As long as you follow the acne prone skin care regime discussed above, and generally take care of your skin, you should be able to treat any existing and acne outbreaks you may have and prevent acne from occurring in the future.
